About the role

We are currently looking for an energetic and highly motivated hospitality professional to join our Manchester Cafe team in a hybrid role of Head Barista and Barista Trainer.

This position is all about ensuring our customers have the best experience possible, both in the café and our wholesale partners. Initially this role will be fully based in the café and will transition into a split role with 4 days working in the café and 1 day in training.


Head Barista


As our Head Barista your focus will be to ensure each coffee is of a high standard, leading the way in coffee preparation, innovation, and engaging the team in coffee skills through ongoing coaching and development. The successful candidate for this role will have a strong growth mindset with the ability to shape and continually develop this role with support from the Café General Manager.


Barista Trainer


Our Barista trainers work directly with our wholesale partners, walking them through everything from how to pull the perfect shot to how to clean your machine at the end of service.


As a Barista Trainer your focus will be on building a relationship with our wholesale partners and guiding through one of our training classes. The successful candidate will have vast coffee knowledge and a passion for people.


Responsibilities will include:


  • Having an eye for the room including maintaining H&S standards across both training and cafe

  • Owning and developing our coffee program; ensuring all beverages served in the café are in line with our coffee guidelines, ensuring the team are delivering high standards of products at all times

  • Running the cafe while the Café General Manager is absent

  • Preparation of outstanding coffee by yourself, the team and in training classes

  • Passing on your passion and knowledge for coffee to the team and keep them engaged with the speciality coffee industry

  • Engaging the team through training and developing their coffee skills, delivering genuine and efficient service to each and every customer

  • Overseeing and setting our recipes for the day (both filter and espresso)

  • Oversee coffee par levels, aging and resting the beans, and weekly beverage ordering

  • Running Barista training classes

  • Ensuring the training room is kept stocked and clean at all times

  • Engaging with our wholesale partners on training opportunities


Some key things we are looking for:


  • Experience and knowledge of speciality coffee

  • Proven leadership skills

  • Excellent communication skills

  • Strong time management and organisational skills

  • Passionate about hospitality and willingness to engage with the community

  • Growth mindset (someone who wants to grow and develop this role)



Details:

Hours: 5 shifts per week around 40 hours per week

Salary: £28,000 - dependant on experience

Days: Flexibility on days is preferred and weekend days are essential.

Times: The cafe is open between 8-3 Mon-Fri and 9-4 on Saturdays and Sundays.

Travel: Occasional travel is required for on-site training sessions

Probation period: 3 months

Reporting to: Manchester Cafe General Manager

Experience: A love for hospitality, experience in coffee is required with an understanding of running a busy café space is beneficial. Full training on our coffee and operational tasks is provided.
