New Zealand’s first-ever HARIO V60 Championship

We had the privilege of organising New Zealand’s first-ever HARIO V60 Championship – an experience that exceeded all our expectations.

We welcomed 32 skilled competitors from all over the country, each bringing their unique brewing techniques to the table. The event drew an amazing crowd, with around 150 people showing up to support the competitors and witness some top-tier brewing in action.

After a day filled with impressive performances and close calls, we are proud to announce the winners of the competition:

1st Place
Masae Hirayama

2nd Place
James Ting

3rd Place
Nelson Soon

Our champion, Masae Hirayama, took home the gold trophy, a Mahlkoenig X54 grinder, Moccamaster, $500 Prezzy card, Hario brew kit, and a La Marzocco prize pack.

A last-minute champion

Joining the competition last minute, our champion Masae was a stand-in for a competitor who couldn’t make it. Without any prior practice, she went on to win the entire Championship, with her coffee being voted the best by a near-unanimous decision – an incredible feat!

A special thanks to our partners

This event wouldn’t have been possible without the tremendous support of our partners:

  • HARIO | Thank you for partnering with us and making this exclusive event a reality in New Zealand

  • C4 Coffee | For providing us with Hario products in NZ

  • Moccamaster | For providing us with a machine for our winner

  • Mahlkoenig | For the top prize (Mahlkoenig X54) and for training competitors on the Mahlkoenig EK Omnia

  • Otis Oat | For the Prezzy cards

  • La Marzocco | For the prize packs and raffle

  • Baris Pizza | For providing the pizzas and a great time.

A celebration of skill, creativity, and community, the HARIO V60 Championship showcased the very best of our industry’s spirit. We look forward to continuing our partnerships with HARIO and other partners, and we can’t wait to bring more events like this to New Zealand, and beyond, soon.
