Shots and Shanks at the ISPS HANDA Australian Open

We like to show up in unexpected places. If we can make someone's day by delivering our flavour when they're least expecting it, we'll take that every day of the week.

For the second year in a row, we were honoured to be supplying specialty coffee at the Australian Open. Held at The Lakes and the Australian Golf Clubs in Sydney, we wanted to take it to the next level for this year’s showing.

Fusing the worlds of coffee and golf, we worked with Buzz Batch in Sydney to design our own mini golf course, Shots and Shanks, to sit right next to our container café. But since we’re coffee specialists, not golf pros, we teamed up with our mates at Playfair Golf to help us run a putt-putt competition on our course while we focused on brewing cups of the good stuff.

A hands on golfing experience requiring serious skills to shoot low, the giant Allpress reusable cup and larger-than-life coffee cans proved a challenge for putters to navigate on their way to winning some pretty neat prizes.

Thanks to our friends over at TaylorMade Australia, we had some tidy golf kit to give away to those who shot the lowest scores around our course each day. Combined with our Playfair x Allpress merch, word quickly spread that Shots and Shanks was the place to be at the event.

We were also lucky to have the support of our mates over at Monster Children, who sent talented amateur skateboarder and golfer Cody Riley to the Open. More than capable at both pursuits, he was the perfect person to report back on the resurgence golf is experiencing at the moment around the world.

But it wasn’t just about the golf – we also wanted to make sure our coffee was on par for the weekend too (pun very much intended). With a full coffee menu on offer, we were stoked to bring our signature flavour to the Open with specialty coffee, batch for the filter lovers and our new range of specialty iced coffee cans. And with caffeine-deprived golf fans in need of a pick-me-up to keep up with the action on the course, we were busy serving up brews all four days.

We were thrilled to share our love for specialty coffee in a new and unexpected setting. We’ll be back next year, ready to show up and deliver more damn good shots – and potentially a few shanks too.
