Soul Boul, founded by Alex Handcock and Stacey Horton, is a delightful cafe that brings wholesome, nutritious meals to the heart of Hamilton East and Mount Maunganui. The duo's journey began in Dunedin in 2015, where their shared passion for health, wellness, and delicious food sparked a deep friendship. Inspired by the vibrant food scene in Bali, Alex and Stacey launched New Zealand’s first smoothie bowl food truck in 2017, combining their skills and love for hospitality.
The first Soul Boul cafe opened its doors in March 2021 on Mount Main Street in Mount Maunganui, nestled within the Sisters clothing store. It quickly became a local favourite, offering a menu of smoothie bowls, sourdough toast, coffee, raw treats, and alternative lattes. The success of this location inspired Alex and Stacey to expand their reach.
In October 2023, Soul Boul opened a new location in Hamilton East’s MADE precinct. Designed by local firm Design Well and constructed by Karma Construction, this vibrant spot seamlessly integrates into the bustling urban market, creating a sunny and welcoming atmosphere. The signature green tiles, large windows, and friendly staff make it a perfect place to relax and enjoy delicious, nutritious kai.
In May 2024, Soul Boul moved to a fantastic new site in Mount Maunganui, continuing to serve the community’s favourite healthy treats in a fresh and inviting space. Both locations maintain the essence of Soul Boul: a commitment to quality ingredients, community connection, and a delightful dining experience.
Soul Boul is renowned for its diverse menu, featuring rich peanut butter smoothie bowls, fresh fruity acai bowls, and the best Avo on Sourdough, made with locally brewed sourdough, pickled onions, cherry tomatoes, feta, lemon, and chilli. Coffee lovers can enjoy our classic Allpress Espresso Blend or explore unique alternative lattes.
Visit Soul Boul in Hamilton East and Mount Maunganui to experience the delicious, nutritious offerings and the warm, welcoming atmosphere that have made this cafe a beloved destination for locals and visitors alike.
