In August, the Allpress Studio buzzed with energy as we hosted a thrilling Latte Art Throwdown, a testament to our ongoing commitment to coffee excellence and bringing the coffee community together.
The event attracted some of the brightest talents from the Auckland coffee scene, with a few passionate participants even making the trek from Hamilton to compete. The evening truly celebrated coffee artistry, community spirit, and the collaborative effort that defines our industry.
Showcasing the Best of the Best and Having Fun
The Throwdown wasn’t just a competition; it was an opportunity to witness the remarkable skill and creativity that our coffee community offers.
With 12 competitors stepping up to the challenge, each pour displayed dedication and precision. The added twist of rolling dice to determine the latte art patterns introduced an exciting element of unpredictability, pushing the baristas to adapt their skills on the spot.
From symmetrical rosettas to intricate tulips, the designs were nothing short of impressive.
A Well-Deserved Win
The evening culminated in a triumphant moment for our top three competitors: Dennis, Honggu and John.
Their exceptional pours, which showcased not only technical precision but also artistic flair, earned them well-deserved recognition and fantastic prizes. Their passion for coffee, combined with a commitment to excellence, set them apart in a field of talented peers.

La Marzocco provided the state-of-the-art Linea Micra machines that powered each pour, ensuring consistency and quality.
Oatis Oatmilk added a unique dimension to the competition, allowing baristas to showcase their versatility across different milk types.
ACME’s competition cups were the perfect canvas for each design, while Meadow Fresh provided the dairy milk that contributed to the rich, creamy textures we all love.
And of course, StrangeLove kept everyone refreshed with their range of beverages, adding to the overall experience.
